of November (these were the only account slips seized).
I have had the duty book looked up and as Mr. Makie reports the men identified with the exception of I. P. C. 698 & I. P. C. 601 were on beats in close proximity to the gambling house during those days.

Although I. P. C. 698's number is not on the account slips in my possession still it must be remembered that I only seized the account slips for 17 days in all. He was on a beat in the vicinity during those days.
But in April & on many previous dates he was on beats in the vicinity no doubt if we had all the account slips for the year even we should find his number on some of them.
I. P. C. 601 was at No. 7 Station during the days for which I have the account slips. But he was transferred from the Central District, and if he had been getting money while stationed there, it would be easy for him to go on collecting it while at No.7 Station.
His duty would bring him into close proximity to the gambling house.
I do not think any useful object would be served by criminally prosecuting any of these men. If one were prosecuted all should be and in any case in the absence of the account slips as evidence then there would only be the word of one against another's.
